How it works

1. Download the ZIP file and unpack it.
2. Copy the entire contents to an empty USB stick.
3. Windows: double-click “Windows - starten.bat” (“starten” means “start”). If Windows Defender warns you: “More info” → “Run anyway”.
4. Mac: right-click “Mac - starten.command” → “Open” and confirm the security warning. From the second start on, a double-click is enough.
5. The browser opens automatically at http://localhost:8080 — create an admin account there and get started. Setup and sign-in appear in your browser’s language; nine languages are available and can be switched at the bottom of the page.

Important: keep the console window open while you use it (that is the server), and quit Valu-Basic before you unplug the stick. All data is stored directly on the stick.

What you need

• A USB stick with about 110 MB of free space – plus room for your photos and receipts
• Windows 10 or 11: nothing else – PHP is included on the stick
• macOS: PHP 8 must be installed (once, via Homebrew: brew install php); if it is missing, the start window tells you what to do
• A current browser. No internet connection is needed.
