Document your valuables before it's too late
After a burglary or water damage, your home contents insurer wants to know what you owned, what it was worth and how you can prove it. ValuSafe has that answer ready in advance: every item is recorded with photos, purchase price, current value, room and receipts. One click turns this into an insurance export, a PDF for your files or a handover report for moving house. The insurance overview shows whether the agreed sum insured actually covers the recorded value.
When it has happened, the damage claim assistant introduced in version 4.4 helps: select the affected items – stolen, destroyed or damaged – and ValuSafe creates a list for the police with photos, serial numbers and features, plus a claim report for the insurer with purchase and current value, receipts and an editable cover letter. Since version 4.4.1, the photos and receipts of all affected items can also be downloaded as a ZIP file – one folder per item, ready to pass on.
Record items at your desk or on the go: on a smartphone, one tap opens quick entry — photo, name, save. Photos can be cropped and rotated on the spot. The camera reads barcodes and ISBNs; name and cover come from open databases.
ValuSafe runs where you want it: on ordinary web space with PHP and MySQL, in a Docker container or on a NAS. Your data never leaves your own server. Several users can share one collection, and what each role may do can be set down to individual actions. The interface speaks ten languages.
If you'd rather not run a server, use Valu-Basic: the single-user edition for a USB stick, started with a double-click on Windows or macOS.
Both are free, with no subscription and no ads, and released under the MIT licence. They are developed by Jörg Steinhäuser with the help of the AI tool Claude.
